POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Transportation Supervisor assists the Director of Operations to ensure that department work goals are met, services are provided efficiently and effectively, ensures that staff utilizes appropriate procedures and safe practices, provides overall coverage of the transportation services, and ensures optimal utilization of personnel and other resources. Directs, supervises, and is responsible for the safe transportation of all students requiring transportation.  This position involves the employment, in-service training, and supervision of all employees in the transportation department.  It further requires administrative judgment and the overall responsibility for the maintenance, repair, and operation of all district vehicles.  Implements the following: driver’s training, commercial driver’s license renewal, state inspections, and transportation safety; and Federal and State Transportation laws.

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience in transportation operations
  • CDL certification
  • Experienced in supervisory responsibility and the ability to manage people skillfully
  • Knowledge of bus maintenance, driver training, and scheduling
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA degree in a supervisory or management-related field of study OR
  • Five (5) years of experience in the operations of transportation services

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists the Director of Operations in supervising transportation personnel and ensures that department work is completed.
  2. Manages transportation department technology solutions.
  3. Attends various meetings to address campus transportation needs, as assigned by the Director of Operations.
  4. Conducts accident investigations and prepares and submits accident reports to notify appropriate law enforcement and insurance agencies.
  5. Assists in coordinating student transportation activities as assigned by the Director of Operations.
  6. Determines work priorities to ensure services are performed timely and effectively at designated sites.
  7. Evaluates personnel to ensure that standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
  8. Inspects repair work, projects, equipment, work orders, daily maintenance, and supplies to ensure that jobs are completed efficiently and within local/state/federal regulations.
  9. Maintains radio contact with buses to ensure a quick response in the event of a mechanical breakdown or emergency situation.
  10. As assigned by the Director of Operations, participates in meetings with school principals and assistant principals to identify campus transportation needs.
  11. Performs the bus driver duties as required to provide adequate coverage.
  12. Prepares and submits various documents (e.g., budgets, requisitions, time studies, productivity, evaluation reports, pre-trip checklists, bus driver handbooks, inventory and 100 day reports etc.) to provide necessary information to state/federal agencies and appropriate district personnel and develop contract specifications.
  13. Provides job-related training opportunities for drivers, bus aides, and mechanics to ensure their job success and compliance with legal mandates.
  14. Recommends new hires, promotions, terminations, and transfers to maintain appropriate staffing and workforce productivity.
  15. Researches new products, laws, regulations, etc., to recommend purchases and contracts, maintain district-wide services, and determine the impact on the district.
  16. Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Operations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret education materials and programs; write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, administration, and the community.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematics such as probability and statistical inference and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
